Man Killed in Vehicle-Pedestrian Crash in El Sobrante Identified as Rudolph Allen

The man who was killed last weekend after being struck by a vehicle while standing in front of a store in El Sobrante, California, has been identified. Accident reports released by the Contra Costa County Coroner’s office on Thursday, April 30, named the fatal victim as Rudolph Allen, a 52-year-old resident of Pinole.

The traffic collision played out at precisely 8:25 pm on Sunday, April 26. According to the reports, the pedestrian was right in front of Jay Vee Liquors, located on the 3600 block of San Pablo Dam Road.

A witness account confirmed that the man had ventured into the roadway to retrieve a displaced item. That was when an oncoming 1998 Toyota Camry eastbound on san Pablo dam Road ran him over.

The victim suffered severe injuries as a result and was transported to a medical facility for treatment. Police said Allen died a few days later and was pronounced dead on Wednesday, April 29.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Camry, a 57-year-old man, stayed at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement agents.

Investigators determined that the victim was standing outside a marked crosswalk when the crash happened, and the street was not well lit. Further details concerning the crash were not disclosed in the accident reports.

Officers are still investigating the tragic occurrence.

Pedestrians are encouraged to prevent such tragedies by avoiding non-pedestrian designated areas of roadways, especially at night, when the lighting may be inadequate to make them out.
