A day after a male motorist lost his life in a single-vehicle collision, the California Highway Patrol identified him on Thursday, July 30th, as Edward Erven Edgerton, 75. The crash that claimed his life happened on Wednesday, July 29th, in Groveland, California.

The CHP’s accident report revealed that the incident took place on Ferreti road near Otter Court. Officer Steve Machado said that Edgerton traveled between 35-40 miles per hour, and went off the north shoulder for unknown reasons.

The victim crashed against a tree, and the impact of the collision left him trapped in his vehicle. Passing motorists stopped and extricated Edgerton from his car, and they tried to keep him alive while they waited for emergency responders. Machado said that the man succumbed to his wounds at the crash site, and the medics pronounced him.

The CHP determined that the victim was wearing a seatbelt when he crashed, and there was no evidence pointing to impairment in any capacity. The reason for the accident remains under investigation, and additional updates would be available later.
