A traffic collision on North Fork Road in Tuolumne, California, on Thursday afternoon, July 30th, left a motorist and her passengers with injuries. 20-year-old Kayla Marie Dickerson-Childres of Merced drove a 2012 Toyota Yaris on the roadway before the incident.

The car accident report released by the California Highway Patrol revealed that at approximately 4:05 p.m., the victim headed south on North Fork Road. Dickerson-Childres made a left-hand turn at a curve in the roadway and drifted across the solid double yellow lines.

The act placed her in front of an oncoming 2007 Dodge Ram driven by Brian Edward Finigan, 59, of Sonora, and they collided. Dickerson-Childres sustained minor injuries and declined medical attention. Two passengers in the Toyota, Melissa Ann McCullough, 33, and Dante Reshawn Turner, 25, both of Copperopolis sustained moderate injuries.

The paramedics transported the two to Adventist Health Sonora for treatment. A third passenger in the car, 2-year-old Abel William McCullough, of Copperopolis, sustained significant injuries, and an air ambulance conveyed him to Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto. Finigan and his passengers did not sustain any wound.

The CHP said that Dickerson-Childres did not correctly install the child safety seat Abel used. The crash remains under investigation, and there’s no additional information at this time.

Drivers with child passengers must ensure that they install the child safety seat properly to give the juvenile a chance of survival in a collision. Additionally, drive with care and exercise caution.
