A motorcycle rider survived an accident in Ford City, California, with injuries. On Tuesday, September 8th, Eric Rients, 45, operated his 2005 Suzuki GSXR 1000 at Elm Street and Pierce Street.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist was eastbound on Elm behind a 2007 Jeep Liberty driven by a 17-year-old female Taft resident. The car reportedly slowed to make a left turn onto Pierce and collided with the motorcycle as it passed through the intersection.
The collision ejected Rients from the motorcycle onto the roadway, and medics rushed him to an area hospital using a helicopter. There’s no update on his condition at the time of this report. The CHP described the pass made by the victim as illegal, but they have not issued any citations.
There is no additional information, and the investigation is ongoing. Auto-motorcycle collisions are not uncommon in California, with over 800 000 registered riders. It takes a particular skill to operate the two-wheeled drive, and riders must ensure they acquaint themselves with their bikes and take a rider’s course.
Motorcycle safety tips include wearing a US-DOT complaint helmet with face and eye protection; it goes a long way in preventing head injuries. Wear appropriate gear to minimize the number of injuries in case of an accident or a skid.
Obey traffic rules and regulations, especially that of speed limits, as the faster the bike, the harder it becomes to slow down and avoid an accident. Ride defensively at all times, stay out of the blind spot of vehicles, and turn on the headlight at dusk or dawn.
