A tragic accident on a highway in Fairfield, California, on the night of Saturday, March 7th, cost a man his life. The authorities have identified him as 34-year-old Luiz Vazquez, a native of Fairfield.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident that claimed Vasquez’s life occurred at about 8:50 p.m. Eyewitnesses told CHP that the deceased was driving erratically on the lanes heading south on Interstate 80.
Vazquez then hit the center median east of Travis Boulevard. Afterward, he exited his car and was immediately struck down by a passing car; the impact threw him into the eastbound lanes of the freeway.
When Vasquez hit the ground, he was struck by several other cars and died from the extensive injuries he sustained. The CHP is in charge of the investigation into the accident, and they have successfully contacted two of the drivers involved.
The drivers are cooperating with CHP and helping them with the investigations. The CHP has not stated if drugs or alcohol impaired Vasquez’s driving, and they will update the public once they have more information.
Accidents are not uncommon on California highways, and they often have a fatal result. The causes of road accidents range from driver’s impairment by drugs or alcohol, or a combination of both to driving over the speed limit.
Distracted driving is also one of the common causes of road accidents as well as reckless driving and driving in adverse weather. Night driving with limited visibility contributes to accidents, and disobeying traffic laws and signs are part of the list.
