Hit-and-Run Driver, Stephanie Montoya, Arrested for Laguna Beach Accident

On Sunday afternoon, August 23rd, three people, including a child, suffered injuries in a car accident in Laguna Beach, California, and the police arrested the driver. Officers with the Laguna Beach Police Department took Stephanie Montoya, 28, into custody, after she fled the crash site, and she would need a top accident lawyer’s expertise.

The crash happened shortly before 5 p.m. in the area of Pearl Street and South Coast Highway. The suspect operated a vehicle southbound on Pearl and veered off the roadway as she approached the highway junction on the west side of the road.

The force from the crash caused Montoya’s car to flip over, and rest on its roof in the middle of the two southbound lanes. The police said that an adult female passenger and a child suffered injuries and medics transported them to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo for treatment.

Montoya fled the scene on foot, and officers found her a short while after near Ruby Street and South Coast Highway. The woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received treatment. After getting medically cleared, the police arrested her on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.

The suspect is also facing charges of child endangerment, felony DUI causing injury, driving with a suspended license, and DUI while on probation for driving under the influence. The investigation into the occurrence is ongoing, and there’s no additional information at this time.

California law provides that those involved in an accident should remain at the scene, render help, and call the relevant authorities. Fleeing amounts to a hit-and-run offense, and carries severe penalties.
