James Tabor Calls 911 Himself After Getting Impaled in Freak Accident

James Tabor

On Tuesday, February 18th, a father-of-two, James Tabor, 24, got into a freak accident that left him impaled against a fence post. He was driving to work at about 4 a.m. when he swerved off the road to avoid hitting a deer.

He was traveling on Highway 47 north of Houston, Texas when the accident happened. Tabor’s red Chevrolet truck struck a chain-link fence, which shot a two-inch pole through his midsection.

The pole barely missed his heart, and with no help in sight, the pipe lifter called 911 himself. He remained conscious until first responders arrived, and got him out of the car.

According to North Montgomery County Fire Department Battalion Chief, Bill Derks, it took up to 30 minutes for him and his team to cut through the pole, and safely get Tabor out. It was a pretty chaotic scene as the firefighters had to cut through the fence too.

A part of the pole had to remain intact to prevent significant blood loss and keep the Texas native alive. The golden hour rule also came into play, and the firefighters strived to prevent more life-threatening injuries.

They transported Tabor to the Conroe Regional Hospital, where he underwent surgery. At the time of this report, the injured man is alive, in stable condition, and still being monitored by doctors.

Animal Crossing is one of the causes of fatal accidents in Texas. Authorities have advised drivers to always have beam lights when driving at dawn or dusk to enable them to sight the animals.

Drivers should drive at the recommended speed to enable them to stop on time when there’s an animal crossing. They should also avoid swerving to keep their car from spinning and crashing.
