The Riverside County Fire Department said that the incident happened near Wiley’s Well Road. The preliminary investigation uncovered that the involved vehicle overturned due to unknown reasons.

The impact left one person with moderate injuries, and Stanton and one other sustained severe injuries. Medics carried the victim to Palo Verde Hospital in Blythe, where he succumbed to his injuries at about 1:25 p.m. Wednesday.

Motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of death in California and the United States. One of the common causes of traffic collisions is driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, which results in speeding or reckless driving.

Another is distracted driving brought on by eating, texting, calling, or changing CDs. It takes a distracted driver about three seconds to crash; thus, drivers must focus on the road ahead of them but look at the sides from time to time.

Running through red lights and disobeying stop, exit, and turn signs can also cause an accident. Drivers must watch out for red-light runners and those trying to beat yellow lights at intersections, and look carefully before driving through.
