In the early hours of Thursday, February 27, a multi-car accident occurred in Napa, California, that injured at least one driver. According to the California Highway Patrol report, the ghastly accident began when two vehicles collided at 5:40 a.m. on Highway 29, south of Highway 221.
It started when 31-years-old San Lorenzo resident, David Campbell Jr. drove his Toyota Tacoma into the rear end of a stopped Honda Civic driven by 48-year-old Jose Perez-Martinez, a resident of Carbondale, Colorado.
The impact of the collision pushed the stopped Civic into a third vehicle. The third vehicle went on to hit a fourth vehicle.
Jose Perez-Martinez was the only party to report injuries from the incident. According to the CHP, the 48-year-old was seriously injured and had to be transported to the Queen of the Valley Medical Center to receive medical attention.
The CHP’s investigation suggested David Campbell Jr. was responsible for the multi-car accident. According to the highway patrol, Campbell was at fault on two counts. He was driving at an unsafe speed. This was compounded by the fact that he fell asleep behind the wheels.
The CHP also said all parties were wearing seatbelts, and no one was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The crashed cars shut down both northbound lanes until 7 a.m. when they were fully cleared.
Highway accidents can happen to anyone. If you find yourself in a highway accident, do not panic. Report to the relevant authorities and call an ambulance.
