A fatal car accident involving a motorist and a female road user walking down the freeway resulted in the death of the unidentified pedestrian on Ventura County’s Old Telegraph Road, California. The fatal crash was said to have taken place late at night, on Wednesday, March 4.
According to the CHP, the car crash was reported at about 10:27 pm on Wednesday after a vehicle travelling through the freeway struck a woman on its path.
The 20-year-old motorist was moving east on Old Telegraph Road, in a 2007 Toyota, while the pedestrian was trekking through the east lane of the road, west of Seventh Street.
The female commuter emerged in front of the Toyota without warning and was fatally hit by the vehicle. The impact caused her to be thrown into the westbound traffic routes, sustaining multiple fatal injuries in the process. She died instantly.
It is still unclear why the lady, who is yet to be identified, was on the east lane, and the Highway Patrol is still investigating.
The operator of the 2007 Toyota has been identified as twenty-year-old Joseph Anthony Ramirez. The young driver remained on the scene following the accident and cooperated with authorities. He was unharmed in the accident.
Fire department personnel arrived shortly after and declared the woman dead. The east and west traffic routes of Old Telegraph Road were closed for over three hours as a result of the fatal wreck, and was reopened at about 2 am after the necessary on-site investigations.
The CHP has urged eyewitnesses of the fatal wreck to contact the Ventura Area CHP office to facilitate the investigative procedure.
