Kristopher Ryan Smith Pleads Guilty to Felony Hit-and-Run in Hollywood

A man who was involved in a hit-and-run accident in Hollywood, California, on Thursday, February 27th, pleaded guilty. He is 20-year-old Kristopher Ryan Smith, and he is accused of hitting a pedestrian and running off afterward.

Smith got charged with one count of hit-and-run driving resulting in death, one misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence. The trial is headed by Ricardo   Santiago of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

The young man will get his sentence on March 19th in a courtroom in downtown Los Angeles. He is facing thirty days in jail, 30 hours of community service, and a three-year probation.

The accident that Smith is standing trial for occurred on April 18th, 2019. According to police reports, the young man killed 56-year-old Andrew Mallard, who was walking across Sunset Boulevard at Formosa Avenue in Hollywood when he hit him with his car.

Mallard sustained serious injuries from the accident and died at the scene while Smith fled. He later turned himself in at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollywood Division a week after.

Smith was later released on bond and has been out of jail since. Coincidentally, the deceased was an ex-convict who went to prison in ’94 after getting convicted for the murder of Pamela Lawrence during a robbery in Perth, Australia.

He got a twenty-year sentence, but the combined efforts of his family and lawyers got the conviction overturned in 2005. Mallard received a $3.5 million compensation from the Australian Government, and have been living in California before he died.
