Multiple-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 255 Leaves Todd Gerdes and Edon Mehmeti Injured

A multiple-vehicle crash on Interstate 255 in the Madison County area of California left two male motorists injured and another dead. The Illinois State Police in a press release on Monday, July 27th, identified the wounded victims as Todd Gerdes, 45, of St. Charles, and Edon Mehmeti, 25, of St. Louis.

The ISP has not released the name of the fatal victim and will do so after notifying the next-of-kin. Officials stated in the car accident report that the crash occurred around 10:55 a.m. north of Milepost 26.6. The dead victim drove a blue 2010 Honda car northbound on the interstate.

The police said that the driver was going too fast for road conditions in heavy rainfall, and lost control of his vehicle. The motorist left the roadway to the left, crossed the center median, and collided head-on with a southbound white 2018 Honda Civic driven by Gerdes.

The Civic rested on the right side of southbound lanes, and the first vehicle continued northbound in the southbound lanes. Mehmeti was heading south in a 2019 blue International truck-tractor semi-trailer, and he collided head-on with the Honda. The impact left the driver with severe injuries, and he died at the scene.

Gerdes and Mehmeti sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and medics transported them to an area hospital for treatment. The ISP said that they closed all southbound lanes on the interstate for approximately 30 minutes. The collision remains under investigation, and there’s no additional information at this time.
