Lawrence Prouty Killed in Oroville Vehicle Collision

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal car accident in Oroville, California, on Sunday, September 20th. The collision, which happened around 9 a.m., killed Lawrence Prouty, of Palermo.

The car accident report disclosed that it took place in the area of Lincoln Boulevard, north of Stanley Drive. The CHP said that Prouty lost control of his car and spun into another lane, where an oncoming vehicle struck him.

The man was not wearing a seatbelt, and he sustained severe injuries. Medics rushed Prouty to the hospital, where medical personnel later pronounced him dead.

The occupants of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries, and received treatment. The investigators have not determined if drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.

Impairment of drugs or alcohol is one of the leading causes of motor vehicle accidents. When a person consumes alcohol, prescription medicine, or an illegal chemical compound, it affects the brain’s cognitive function, leading to dizziness and unclear vision.

In that state, a person behind the wheel can lose control of the car, leading to an accident. Another factor that is likely to cause loss of control is an adverse weather condition like rainfall. When it rains on a road that has been dry for a long time, the surface becomes slippery.

A driver who speeds on a slippery road can lose tire traction, which would, in turn, cause the vehicle to hydroplane or spin out of control. When this happens, avoid stepping on the brake forcefully as it can increase the skidding effect; apply it gently and as slow as possible.
