Based on the investigation so far, the California Highway Patrol has concluded that the 2001 Honda Civic that was being driven by Marquez over-corrected when she was turning, and it caused her to hit a tree.
After hitting the tree, the Honda landed on its side and began to smoke.
Both of the women were pronounced dead at the scene from the injuries that they sustained hitting the tree head-on.
It was not made clear if the women were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident. The cause of death has not been released for either of the women in this accident either.

The authorities have not said if they think that drugs and/or alcohol could have played a role in the accident. They are currently waiting for testing to be completed to receive the results.
