An accident that occurred on Sunday, May 3, at Santa Clarita, California, left Kathleen Trujillo badly injured, and Leslie Trujillo, 64, dead. Accident reports revealed that the victims were traveling together on a motorcycle when the crash happened.
Reports from the San Gabriel Valley Tribune stated that the deceased, Leslie, was traveling south on the Interstate 14 Freeway, also known as the Antelope Valley Freeway, on the day of the accident. He was riding a 2015 Harley-Davidson motorbike, while Kathleen was his passenger.
When the motorcycle approached the area near Soledad Canyon Road, it struck a dirt embankment. The impact of that hit forced both occupants to be ejected from the bike.
Responding officers and medics arrived at the scene of the crash after receiving calls from eyewitnesses. After attending to the victims, they pronounced Leslie Trujillo dead at the scene. They also rushed the heavily injured Kathleen to the Henry Mayo Newhall hospital for treatment.
At about 12:3 p.m., police requested a Sig Alert for the closure of both lanes of the southbound freeway. The lanes were later reopened at about 1:02 p.m. Investigations into the crash remain ongoing.
According to accident reports, authorities describe motorcycle accidents as one of the deadliest types of accidents. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states that one is 37 times more likely to die in a motorcycle accident than in a car accident. Also, one is nine times more likely to get injured while riding a motorbike than while driving a car.
To that end, patrol officers always ask motorcycle riders to ride safely and wear protective gear whenever they are on the roadways to avoid dangerous crashes and better protect themselves if one occurs.
