Authorities are investigating the death of a woman who turned up dead after her vehicle drove off the roadway and rolled down an embankment in Pleasanton, California. Accident reports obtained from the California Highway Patrol confirmed that the incident took place on Thursday, April 23.
Officers responded to the fatal occurrence shortly after 1:25 am, on Interstate 580, near the area of San Ramon and Foothill Roads following a distress call reporting the accident.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the fatal victim was the driver and sole occupant of a blue Toyota RAV4 traveling on I-580, west of San Roman.
The motorist was reportedly negotiating a right turn at the road intersection when for unknown reasons, her vehicle drifted off the freeway and rolled down a dirt embankment.
The out-of-control vehicle skidded into a heavily wooded area, before crashing into a chain-link fence leading to Canyon Road, where it crashed into an electric pole. The car halted against one of the supporting cables of the dislodged utility pole.
Emergency responders rescued the woman from the wreck and transported her to Eden Medical center, Castro Valley, where she eventually gave in to her injuries.
Authorities identified the deceased as 22-year-old Lisa Thomason. It was not immediately established whether Thomason was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
The accident reports confirmed that no other casualty was recorded as a result of the traffic collision.
The fatal incident remains under investigation by the CHP.
