Los Angeles Auto-Pedestrian Accident Kills Kevin Salazar

26-year-old Kevin Salazar died early Monday morning, June 15th, in an auto-pedestrian accident that occurred in South Los Angeles, California. The Los Angeles County Coroner identified him on Tuesday, June 16th, and the accident report disclosed that the collision occurred on Harbor (110) Freeway.

According to the California Highway Patrol, multiple vehicles struck the victim at approximately 12:11 a.m. in the southbound lane of the freeway. The cars hit Salazar in the No. 1 lane near 51st Street. Motorists told the investigators that vehicles swerved to avoid hitting the man.

The Los Angeles Police Department closed all the freeway lanes and issued a SigAlert at 12:28 a.m. They reopened the roadway at 3:30 a.m. after clearing the scene and collecting evidence. There is currently no information on what Salazar was doing on the freeway, and the investigation remains active.

The California Office of Traffic Safety lists auto-pedestrian accidents as a rising problem that must get curbed. According to the agency, the increase in the number of people walking to work, school, shopping centers, or jogging has contributed to the rise in pedestrian accidents, injury, and death rates.

Drivers and pedestrians must work together to promote safe road behaviors to enhance their safety. Safety tips for the two include wearing bright colors when walking, staying off the phone, staying alert and avoiding jaywalking, and looking at both sides of the road before crossing or going through an intersection. Others are stopping at crosswalks, maintaining the speed limit, and backing out of driveways cautiously.
