A 60-year-old Wilmington man lost his life today when the garbage truck he was driving, collided with a semi-truck.

Details of the crash are still being determined about the collision that the intersection of Broadway and Compton Boulevard in the Rosewood area of unincorporated Los Angeles County.

According to the California Highway Patrol, county firefighters pronounced the garbage truck driver dead at the scene where he was found pinned beneath his vehicle.

It is believed that the deceased was heading westbound on Compton Boulevard when he entered the intersection where his vehicle with a southbound big-rig truck. The force of the accident caused the passenger cab of the trash truck to detach from the truck’s frame and slide across Broadway, windshield down. The now deceased driver was ejected from the passenger compartment of his 2012 trash truck when it hit the curb, and ended up pinned beneath the vehicle. It is believed that the driver was not wearing any sort of seat belt or safety restraint.

The accident occurred at approximately 5:40 a.m., July 15th, 2016.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but at this time it is believed that neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the accident. The 48-year-old Blythe man who was driving the other vehicle was not injured and has not been arrested.
