WESTLAKE, LOS ANGELES, CA – According to authorities, four men were injured after being struck by a pickup truck in MacArthur Park on Thursday afternoon, leaving two of the injured men in critical condition.

Reports of the incident from the 600 block of Park View Street were received by the Los Angeles Fire Department at around 12:40 p.m. – the report indicated that four victims ranging in age from 24 to 35 were struck by a vehicle while sitting on the grass.

First responders found all four men had sustained injuries – two sustaining non-life-threatening injuries and two in critical condition. All four were transported to L.A. County-USC Medical Center.

While details of the accident are still not clear, it is known that shortly before the incident occurred, a parking enforcement officer who had been warning drivers parked in the area to move their vehicles, was in contact with the driver of the pickup truck. Reports indicate that the driver abruptly reversed his truck, knocked over a parking meter and careened into the group of men sitting on the lawn.

LAPD Officer Aareon Jefferson stated “At this time, we don’t know yet until we speak to the individual,” and “We’re treating this as an accident. The driver is cooperative.”

The motorist remained at the scene of the accident and rendered aid to the victims. He himself was then placed in an ambulance and sent to a nearby hospital – his condition is unknown, and his identity has not been released. It is still to be determined whether or not alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.
