Maria Navarro and Rafael Duarte Killed in Perris Auto Collision

On Monday morning, July 13th, two people lost their lives in an auto collision in Perris, California. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as Maria Navarro, 69, and Rafael Navarro Duarte, 68. They are both residents of the city.

Facts from the accident report showed that the crash occurred at about 11:45 p.m. at the intersection of Harley Knox Boulevard and Patterson Avenue east of Interstate 215. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said that the driver of a Chevrolet Blazer traveled at top speed when the car collided with a Ford F-150 at the intersection. Navarro and Duarte were traveling in the second vehicle.

The Cal-Fire Riverside County Fire Department said that one of the cars involved caught fire upon impact. When firefighters arrived, they found the driver of the Ford dead, and later brought out an unresponsive passenger whom they pronounced dead.

The report did not state who the driver or the passenger was between the two victims. The sheriff’s office said that the Chevy driver appeared impaired, and tried to flee the crash site on foot. Officers captured the motorist near the scene, and he or she would face murder charges.

The crash led to the closure of the intersection while the firefighters carried out their preliminary investigation and cleared the scene. The accident remains under investigation, and anyone who witnessed it and has relevant information should contact Deputy Kieback at the Perris Sheriff’s Station.
