Authorities have publicly disclosed the name of the Freeway Service Patrol driver who was killed Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle wreck near Dublin.
Sixty-one-year-old Mark Alarcon, of Dublin, died as a result of the crash, according to the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office. No other injuries were listed on car accident reports available Wednesday evening.
Authorities said Alarcon was using a Freeway Service Patrol truck on California 280 southbound at about 3:40 p.m. Tuesday. The Freeway Service Patrol is a civilian agency funded by the California Highway Patrol that helps provide fuel or other service to motorists in the state.
Another motorist traveling in the area left the roadway and struck Alarcon and his vehicle, according to car accident reports. Alarcon suffered fatal injuries in the wreck, according to the coroner’s office.
The other driver, who was not identified in car accident reports, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities did not say whether he suffered any injuries as a result of the crash.
The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. Authorities have not said what they believe led to the wreck, but they do not suspect the use of intoxicants as a contributing factor.
No charges or citations have been announced by the state agency.
