The family of a 20-year-old man killed on I-15 in San Bernardino County, California, while crossing the freeway to get help, has identified him. The deceased’s mother, on Wednesday, April 1, disclosed the victim’s name as Matthew Enrique Carmona, 20. The family, however, did not confirm intentions to involve a car accident lawyer in the wrongful death of the 20-year-old.
The vehicle-pedestrian collision took place just before 8 pm on Sunday, March 29. Officers of the California Highway Patrol were dispatched to Interstate 15 freeway, south of Glen Helen Parkway, upon reports of a pedestrian accident.
Responding officers found the victim unconscious on the lane #2 of the southbound freeway.
Recounting the incident, Carmona’s mom, Siria Sanchez, divulged that her son was traveling south on I-15 in his black 2008 Honda Civic when the vehicle ran out of gas.
As a result, Carmona and another occupant in the car went across the freeway to request assistance from a nearby gas station.
While crossing the road on their way back to the car, an approaching vehicle hit the stranded motorist, causing him fatal injuries. He was declared dead on the scene by responding medics.
Meanwhile, the operator of the car, which struck the victim, waited at the scene, and cooperated with law enforcement. Police reports did not establish whether or not the unidentified motorist was charged with any offense.
Members of the deceased’s family have been left in mourning since his passing and have created a GoFundMe account for donations to subsidize his funeral expenses.
Grieving families of crash victims can also consult a car accident lawyer to access the case and possibly get recompense for damages using a wrongful death claim.
