Man Killed in Moreno Valley Shooting and Crash IDed as Jared Lewis

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has released the name of the fatal victim of a tragic shooting and resulting car crash, which took place in Moreno Valley, California. Accident reports obtained from the sheriff’s office on Thursday, April 2, confirmed the deceased’s name as Jared Lewis, a 23-year-old man from Moreno Valley.

The fatal occurrence happened at night, on Tuesday, March 31, at the 23500 block of Sunnymead Ranch Parkway. Residents alerted law enforcement about a neighborhood disturbance, suspected to be a shootout, with one person in possession of a firearm.

Before their arrival, police got reports that the involved parties had fled the scene in several vehicles. Another distress call confirmed that shots were fired during the confrontation, which led to a traffic accident in Sunnymead Ranch Parkway and Perris Boulevard.

Responding deputies at the crash site discovered a man, with multiple gunshot wounds inside a white Dodge Charger, with the vehicle crashed into a wall.

Jared Lewis was transported to a medical facility in the area, where police confirmed he later passed away from his injuries.

Following the conflicted encounter, authorities set up a checkpoint in the area of Heacock and Parkland Avenues, where two suspects, traveling in a vehicle, were intercepted.

One of the apprehended commuters, Jayvonte Wilkinson, 24, of Moreno Valley, was linked to the incident. He was detained and booked into Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of murder, as stated in the accident reports.

The incident remains under investigation.
