The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office, on Thursday, May 28, identified the man killed in a crash in unincorporated Somis, California. The victim’s name is Matthew Mackenzie, a 28-year-old of Camarillo, according to accident reports.
The California Highway Patrol said that Mackenzie died at the scene of the crash on Los Angeles Avenue near La Cumbre Road.
The accident happened on Tuesday, May 26, at about 8:45 AM. Ryan Ayers, a patrol officer, said that Mackenzie was driving a sedan and heading east on Los Angeles Avenue.
For unknown reasons, the sedan veered into oncoming traffic, striking a flatbed truck heading west. Another vehicle, a semi traveling west, also struck the sedan.
Mackenzie, who was the sole occupant of the sedan, was the only fatality in the crash. There were no other injuries reported.
Following the collision, authorities shut down both directions of Los Angeles Avenue to enable investigators to work at the scene. They reopened the road at about 1:15 p.m.
Motorists need to perform regular maintenance checks on their vehicles to avoid them from breaking down on the road unexpectedly.
Unexpected vehicular breakdowns can lead to accidents on the roadway. When a vital part of the vehicle malfunctions while driving, it could cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
