Coroner Names Manuel Duran as Motorist Killed in Merced Solo-Car Crash

The Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office identified 43-year-old Manuel Duran Jr. as the motorist killed in a single-vehicle crash in Merced, California. Coroner officers made the revelation in a press statement on Wednesday, August 20th.

The auto crash involved a 2014 Mercedes-Benz driven by the victim, with no passengers present. For reasons under investigation, the man’s vehicle drifted sideways and struck a group of trees before eventually slamming into concrete a wall. The Mercedes-Benz rolled over and came to rest on its roof.

Police said the Tuesday, August 18th crash happened on Dunn Road, north of Merced County. They believe the victim lost control of his vehicle due to speeds exceeding 60 mph, which was above the permissible limit on Dunn Road.

First responders extricated the motorist from his overturned vehicle and declared him dead soon after. Additional information about this crash is pending the result of the police investigation.

Single-vehicle accidents may occur for several reasons, with speed, distraction, and intoxication by drugs or alcohol topping the list. Other contributing factors like impatience, failure to maintain lane, improperly lit roadways are also significant role players in such events.

Obeying traffic regulations, driving at a safe speed, and avoiding driving at night can help curb such occurrences. In case of a crash, filing an accident report to the appropriate quarters should be the next line of action, notwithstanding the extent of resulting casualties.
