Motorcyclist Killed in Skyway Traffic Wreck Identified as Ricardo Casa-Perez

Jeremy Lizenbee

A motorcycle rider was involved in a solo-vehicle accident last weekend in Chico, California. The Butte County Coroner’s office, on Wednesday, August 19th, said Ricardo Casa-Perez, a 27-year-old Chico man, died in the crash.

The incident took place at about 10:19 p.m. on Friday, August 14th, on Skyway, a few miles west of Potter Road. According to the accident reports, the victim was riding his motorcycle on Skyway at a high rate of speed when it crashed on the Highway.

Response crews found Casa-Perez lying unresponsive, and conveyed him to a health facility via an ambulance. However, doctors were unable to save the motorcyclist, who succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Chico police officers believe speed was a factor in the single-vehicle crash. Toxicology reports would establish whether the man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol while riding his motorcycle. No additional detail about the accident, which remains under investigation, is available.

Preventing motorcycle accidents start with identifying the potential causes and risk factors. Like other forms of traffic collisions, motorcycle accidents result when riders fail to obey traffic safety regulations. Speed, intoxication, impatience, or mechanical faults are some of the prevalent causes.

Adopting good habits and safety practices help keep the road safe for bikers, pedestrians, and motorists alike. Also, wearing protective gear like helmets and gloves offers extra protection to motorcycle riders in case of an unforeseen accident.
