Motorist Amarante Medina Hits Pedestrian Fatally in Modesto Collision

A tragic accident that occurred on Tuesday afternoon at an intersection in Modesto, California, claimed the life of a woman. The incident took place on Tuesday, March 31, as confirmed in the accident reports made available by the Modesto Police Department.

According to the reports, the victim was crossing the freeway at the intersection of Kerr Avenue and Yosemite Boulevard at about 2:45 pm.

Just before she made it across the road, an SUV traveling through the westbound traffic lanes in the pedestrian’s direction suddenly struck her. She sustained major injuries as a result.

First responders attempted to rescue the injured pedestrian, transporting her to a local hospital. The woman later died from her injuries while receiving treatment. Authorities withheld the identity of the deceased victim pending notification of her next of kin.

The operator of the SUV stayed at the scene until police arrived and cooperated with authorities. The name of the motorist was revealed as Amarante Medina, a 45-year-old woman.

It was not immediately disclosed whether drugs and alcohol were suspected in the crash. Medina was, however, not arrested.

Investigations into the incident are still in the works to determine the cause and liability of the fatal collision.

Investigators would consider factors like impairment, distracted driving, negligence, and intoxication, all of which are leading causes of traffic accidents.

An update on the findings, including the deceased’s identity, would be provided once made available in the accident reports.
