A month after an accident on Mount Hamilton Road, San Jose, California, claimed the life of an older man, the authorities have finally identified him. On Friday, February 28th, his name got revealed as Benedict Philip Morgan, 80, of Los Angeles County.

Morgan has been a “Jane Doe” in the coroner’s office since he died in a car crash in the afternoon of January 23rd. The accident happened at about 1 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP preliminary investigation at the time of the crash uncovered that the deceased, who was driving a ’94 Buick, lost his way on the winding road. Near Quimby Road, Morgan flagged down a driver heading east and asked for directions.

He told the other driver that he needed to get back on Interstate 680, a few miles west. The driver offered to show the deceased the way and asked him to follow at a short distance behind.

The two cars started out that way, when suddenly, before they made their way to the highway, Morgan veered off the road. The act caused the Buick to crash into a tree, and go up in flames.

The older man had severe burns, and by the time paramedics arrived, he was dead. There was no way for the authorities to identify him, and they transported the deceased to the coroner’s office for an autopsy and DNA test.

Morgan resided in Montebello, a Los Angeles suburb. The deceased’s resident was not listed by the coroner, and there’s no information his family has been notified of his passing.
