The elderly bicyclist who was fatally injured in Napa County, California after riding his bicycle into a ditch located beside his driveway has been identified as Isac Avila Avina, 67, of Napa.
The tragic wreck which took place in the afternoon of Sunday, April 12 may require the involvement of a bicycle accident attorney to assess the surrounding circumstances and determine whether a wrongful death claim can be made.
The Napa County Sheriff’s Department released the deceased’s name on Wednesday, April 15, via an official statement, naming him the sole victim.
The fatal occurrence played out just outside Avina’a Napa residence in the 2500 block of Atlas Peak Road, at about 2:05 pm. The elderly man was reportedly on his way back home, on his bicycle.
Just as the man attempted entering his driveway, he suddenly lost control of the bike and tumbled into a concrete ditch, about 15 feet deep.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene shortly after they were notified of the accident, and found the man severely injured.
The emergency rescue operatives attempted to save the injured cyclist, but he gave in to his fatal wounds before he was taken to the hospital.
Investigators are yet to determine what caused the biker to lose control.
Several factors can be responsible for this type of crash, including a faulty bicycle, an unforeseen road hazard, or a possible sudden distraction.
In most cases, these potentially dangerous factors are out of the control of the cyclist, giving the victim, or their family thereof, a legal ground to file a wrongful death lawsuit.
It is essential for victims of bicycle crashes to consult a bicycle accident attorney to ascertain the next line of action.
