A man was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash leading to the death of a bicyclist, in which he was the motorist allegedly responsible. The suspect, identified as Nicholas Baker, was apprehended following the incident on Sunday, April 26, in the Goleta Area of California, in a case that will require the intervention of a drunk driving attorney.
The fatal wreck took place at about 10 pm in a location in El Encanto Heights, west of Glen Annie Road. According to the reports, the female cyclist was riding her bicycle through Calle Real at Violet Lane when she was struck by an SUV driven by Nicholas Baker, 20, of Goleta. The operator of the vehicle did not stop to call in the collision, or render aid to the victim, but fled the scene of the crash before police arrived.
First responders declared the cyclist dead at the scene. Based on witness accounts and emergency radio traffic reports, the vehicle was determined to be a dark-colored SUV, which fled east on Calle Real toward Glen Annie Road.
The SUV later headed south toward Hollister Avenue. The vehicle was reportedly emitting a fluid trail which led the deputies to the 900 block of Camilo del Sur in Isla Vista, where the SUV was found abandoned.
Baker was eventually arrested and booked into the Main Jail on suspicion of hit-and-run causing injury or death, DUI causing injury, and involuntary vehicular manslaughter. He remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail.
Anyone involved in a DUI related crash is advised to contact a drunk driving attorney for representation.
