Californian authorities have revealed the name of the woman who lost her life in the accident on U.S. Route 95, Havasu Lake, California. She is Pascuala Casteneda, 40, from Bullhead City, Arizona.
Casteneda died from the injuries she sustained from a two-vehicle collision on Thursday, February 20th. The accident happened not far from Turtle Mountain Road, at about 6:54 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
For reasons that the investigating officers are yet to uncover, a semi-truck driven by an unnamed driver collided with the Kia sedan, the deceased was driving. Paramedics at the scene did all they could to save Castaneda’s life, but she succumbed to her wounds.
The investigation into the cause of the accident is still ongoing. But the authorities have not stated if alcohol or drugs had a role in the accident, or if the driver of the semi would face criminal prosecution.
Accidents occur daily in California, and yearly, almost 5, 000 people die from fatal accidents in the United States. The common cause of traffic crashes includes fatigue, inebriation, and driving beyond the speed limit.
When accidents happen, the person who caused the accident bears the liability and faces either criminal or civil trial based on the nature of the crash. When sued, the offending driver can either face jail time, pay a fine, or make restitution to the victim.
The city can also face liability if low barriers between opposing traffic lanes caused the accident. When this happens, the state will make restitution to the victims.
