The pedestrian killed in a collision in the Gilroy area of California during the weekend has been identified. On Tuesday, July 28th, the Santa Clara Medical Examiner’s Office released the victim’s name as Vincent Aguilera, 60.
The accident report made to the Gilroy Police Department on Saturday, July 25th, placed the time of the accident at about 11:40 p.m. at 10th Eigleberry Street. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a severely injured Aguilera and flew him to a trauma center where he passed away.
The police are actively searching for the driver of the pickup truck they believe struck the man and fled the scene. The investigators said that the motorist headed west on 10th Street, but there’s no definite description of the driver or the make or model of the pickup truck. Anyone with information about the accident should contact the GPD on the listed line.
An auto-pedestrian collision occurs when a vehicle strikes a person and leaves the victim severely or fatally injured. After such an occurrence, the driver under the California Vehicle Code provisions must stop at the scene, or park at the nearest place where traffic won’t get affected and return to the collision site.
The driver must contact the relevant law enforcement agency, assist any injured person, wait for the first responders to arrive, and cooperate with the investigation. Failure to do this amounts to a hit-and-run offense, and a guilty offender would face imprisonment amid other punishments.
