A suspected DUI motorist has been arrested by the police after driving his vehicle into a utility pole, causing it to hit a 68-year-old pedestrian in San Diego, California. The driver who fled the scene after the crash was arrested on Thursday, April 2, for DUI and hit-and-run. Also, an injury lawsuit may be filed by the injured woman, under the guidance of a car injury lawyer.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the crash happened at the 4800 block of Genesee Avenue, south of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard.

The alleged drunk driver was traveling north, in a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado at about 3:35 pm, when he drifted to the left and struck a center divider.

After the impact, he made an abrupt overcorrection to the right, which caused the truck to roll over, crashing into a power pole on the side of the road.

As a result, the pole gave way at the base and struck an elderly woman using the sidewalk. The pole’s descent was stopped by the roof of a building near Genesse and Sauk avenues.

The woman suffered severe cuts on her head and left arm, which were described as non-life-threatening. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The driver, Pedro Mathias Perez, 25, and the sole passenger in his vehicle did not wait at the scene, but abandoned the truck and fled.

Upon apprehending the fleeing car occupants, the passenger was discovered to have sustained serious injuries in the wreck, with the skin of his right arm torn from wrist to elbow.

Perez was taken into custody, facing charges of DUI and felony hit-and-run, while his passenger was transported to a hospital.

Injured victims of car accidents can consult a car injury lawyer to ensure they are duly compensated for damages under a personal injury claim.
