Police Arrest Charlette Anne Colton for Long Beach DUI and Hit-and-Run Accident

A woman who caused an accident in Long Beach. California, on Tuesday, March 24th, has been arrested by the police. Charlette Anne Colton, 50, was taken into custody by the police on the same day the accident occurred.

The Long Beach Police Department said that the woman struck two men and then fled the scene without rendering aid. The accident occurred on Del Amo Boulevard and Long Beach Boulevard at about 12:40 p.m.

The preliminary accident report showed that two men were disconnecting towing equipment on the roadway when Colton struck them with a minivan. The men, who remain unidentified, were taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

Colton was later located and arrested by officers of the LBPD on suspicion of DUI and felony hit-and-run. There is currently no additional information about the accident, and the California Highway Patrol is taking point on the investigation.

A DUI and felony hit-and-run are offenses that California courts frown at. Prosecutors try a DUI as a misdemeanor or felony, based on the facts of each case, and the punishment for a convicted person ranges from jail time to a fine, to suspension of driving privileges.

A felony hit-and-run, on the other hand, has a punishment ranging from jail time as low as a year, but not more than three years and a fine not less than $10 000. In either case, the court always considers the action of the offender.

To avoid the criminal charges, drivers are advised to not drive when under any kind of intoxication and remain at the scene of the accident to render aid and help the authorities with their investigation.
