Authorities have confirmed the death of the teenager who was hit by a vehicle last week while keeping to the sidewalk on Seaward Avenue, near Alessandro Drive, in Ventura, California. The deceased’s identity was revealed by the Ventura County’s Medical Examiner’s office on Saturday, March 14, as Austin Gambill, a 16-year-old male resident of Ventura.
According to reports by officers of the Ventura Police department, the teenage boy was struck by a work truck, sustaining life-threatening injuries as a result.
The incident occurred at about 3:30 pm on March 11 along Seaward Avenue. Investigators determined that the highschooler was walking on the kerbside when the 2011 Chevrolet work truck ran over the pavement curb and hit the pedestrian for reasons yet unknown.
The vehicle operator stopped at the scene pending police arrival and cooperated with officers without duress.
Paramedics arrived at the crash site and found the pedestrian still breathing, with multiple injuries suffered in the vehicle-pedestrian collision.
He was hurriedly transported to the Ventura County Medical Center, via ground ambulance where he received immediate treatment. However, he gave in to his injuries barely 48 hours later, as revealed by authorities.
No information was disclosed about the Chevrolet work truck driver. However, it was ascertained that neither drugs nor alcohol was a factor in the unfortunate occurrence.
Investigations into the tragic crash are ongoing by the traffic unit of the Ventura Police department, to determine the cause of the accident.
