A northern California man faces multiple charges after he allegedly stole a school bus Saturday morning and crashed into several cars in San Mateo County.
Police said Santos M. Murillocuellas, 23, of Redwood City, broke into a school bus storage yard on Mills Way in Redwood City on Saturday morning. He drove a bus away from the storage yard at about 9:45 a.m., and quickly began ramming nearby cars.
Authorities said he struck seven cars on Woodside Avenue between Spring Street and Massachusetts Avenue, causing “significant damage.” He also is accused of striking other fixed objects, including a fence and a traffic signal pole.
“The suspect (identified later as Murillocuellas) fled the bus, but was quickly taken into custody without incident by an off-duty San Mateo County Sheriff’s deputy,” police said in a press release.
Murillocuellas eventually crashed the bus on a power transformer in a shopping center parking lot, according to Redwood City police. He was arrested on charges of vehicle theft, burglary, hit and run, vandalism and reckless driving, authorities said in a release.
“The collisions involved parked vehicles and there are no personal injuries reported at any of the impact locations,” police wrote in the release.
The investigation is ongoing.
