One person ended up dead earlier this week following a vehicle-pedestrian crash in Redding, California. According to the accident reports obtained from the Redding Police Department, the fatal incident took place on Monday, May 18.

Officers responded to the crash site shortly after receiving calls of a traffic collision on State Route 273, involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The pedestrian reportedly got struck after venturing into the road in front of a moving car in an attempt to move on to the other side of the Highway.

The vehicle involved, driven by 25-year-old Gessica Leuschner, was traveling through the north traffic lanes of Highway 273. Just as the motorist approached Buenaventura Boulevard, a pedestrian crossed the road outside a crosswalk, directly in front of Leuschner’s car. The female driver was unable to apply the brakes in time to avoid running over the victim.

Responding paramedics pronounced the struck person dead at the scene. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office later identified the deceased as Razy Lynn Tufnell, a 46-year-old resident of Chico, after notifying family members.

Meanwhile, Leuschner, who was unharmed in the crash, stayed at the scene until law enforcement arrived. A DUI expert asserted that the motorist was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the tragic collision. Officers also believe speed took no part in the crash, the accident reports confirmed.

Possible witnesses with useful information about the crash should contact the Redding Police Department Traffic specialist Dennis Mack.
