In what has become a week long tragic story, 68-year-old Larry Schellhase of Los Angeles died from injuries he suffered as a result of a bicycle accident in Redondo Beach. Schellhase, died on Sunday at Harbor-UCLA medical center. Schellhase suffered serious head and neck injuries after he crashed on Catalina Avenue near Emerald Street.
Report indicate that Schellhase was an experienced cyclist and that the crash was a result of dangerous brackets that were install into the roadway. Police have not yet concluded their investigation but have collected the brackets as evidence.
Although the police investigation continues, it is critical that an investigation begins to determine whether there was any negligence that may have caused Schellhase’s death. The brackets that were collected may play an important role in figuring out what if any claims for wrongful death may be brought to hold those who are responsible accountable for their actions and/or inactions (negligence).
Our deepest condolences to the Schellhase family and the community that has been impacted by this tragic loss.
