The fatal victim of the tragic ATV accident which happened last week Thursday near Three-Cent Road in the Glencoe area of San Andreas, California, has been identified as Toni Marie Smithson, a 54-year-old woman resident in the Glencoe region. The deceased’s identity was disclosed on Monday, March 9, by the Calaveras County Coroner’s Office.

California Highway Patrol officers attached to the county’s San Andreas Unit revealed that the deadly incident occurred on Thursday, March 5. However, the corpse of the victim remained undiscovered for almost 48 hours.

According to the CHP, the local was traveling in a 2003 Can-Am-Commander ATV near Three Cent Road sometime on Thursday, when her vehicle overturned on a dirt pathway.

Her body was found two days later, on Saturday, March 7, by a local property owner after encountering the remote crash scene and alerting the authorities. CHP officials found the fatal victim hinged underneath the upturned ATV.

Investigators determined that a wrong turn made by the vehicle operator caused the all-terrain-vehicle to roll over, partially ejecting the motorist in the process, before landing on her.

It was also discovered that the deceased was using a helmet or seat belt prior to the accident. The post-mortem examination revealed that the Glencoe local died minutes after the crash. However, it was unclear if impairment was a factor in the fatal wreck as the toxicology reports remain inconclusive.

Investigations into the incident are being conducted.
