An accident involving a 2006 Toyota Scion XB and a 2009 Kenworth Dump Truck on I-15 resulted in the death of the driver of the Scion.
Shortly after 11am on Thursday, September 22, 21-year-old Faith Michaela Hawkins of Hesperia collided with a dump truck on Interstate 15 near where Rancho Cucamonga meets Fontana. The woman died as a direct result of the collision.
The dump truck driven by Bloomington resident, Jose Luis Castillo, was traveling southbound on I-15, approaching the transition to the 210 freeway. Castillo made an abrupt lane change, colliding into the side of Ms. Hawkins Toyota.
The impact caused the vehicle to spin and overturn several times onto the transition road to eastbound 210. The young woman was ejected onto the roadway as her vehicle flipped.
Ms. Hawkins was transported by ambulance to San Antonio Community Hospital with major injuries, later being pronounced deceased by medical personnel.
The collision which caused major traffic jams on southbound I-15 Thursday is still under investigation.
