A car injury attorney’s service would come in handy for a suspected hit-and-run driver following his arrest by the San Diego Police Department, San Diego, California. On Tuesday, May 26th, officers conducting a pedestrian search found and arrested 30-year-old Abbas Karama Shariff.

In the early hours of Wednesday, May 27th, the police remanded him at the San Diego Central Jail pending when they release the charges against him. In a press release, Sgt. Kevin Gibson said that the suspect was behind the wheel of a red Toyota Prius that struck a bicyclist in the city.

The fatal collision happened shortly after 7 p.m. in the area of Ronaldo Street, precisely in the 6600-block of University Avenue. Gibson said that Shariff stopped and alighted from his car after the collision. The man picked up the fatally injured bicycle rider and then dropped him back on the floor before fleeing the scene.

Emergency responders conveyed the victim to an undisclosed medical center where medical personnel declared him dead. Investigators at the scene found the Prius abandoned some blocks from the accident scene, in the 6800-block of El Cajon Blvd.

They kept on searching and found Shariff a little after 9 p.m. in the 7100-block of Central Avenue in Lemon Groove. The SDPD public-affairs Officer Billy Hernandez said that they questioned the suspect after the crash before taking him into custody. The investigation remains active.

Anyone who flees an accident scene should contact a car injury lawyer for legal advice and possible representation when apprehended.
