San Diego Pedestrian Killed on Interstate 8

Just before midnight on Sunday, a pedestrian who had been walking in traffic on Interstate 8 in El Cajon was struck by a vehicle and killed.

The driver of the vehicle was unable to avoid the man who had been walking on the eastbound freeway approaching Greenfield Drive in the Bostonia area.

Gravely injured, the pedestrian later died in a hospital. The driver involved in the crash was not arrested or ticketed and was not suspected of drunken driving.

California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Pearlstein said investigators were working to determine who the pedestrian was and whether he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident.
