An elderly man in San Francisco was struck and killed by a hop-on-hop-off tour bus, near Divisadero Street.
According to the local ABC affiliate, the bus struck the man who was later pronounced dead on the scene. Hop-on-hop-off tour busses are becoming more common in large cities. They allow tourists to see some or all of the city they’re visiting, while still enjoying the benefits of a guided tour. These busses are privately owned.
Later reports from The Chronicle say eyewitnesses said the man was waving and yelling at the bus, that appeared to be running a red light.
The California Vehicle Code states that pedestrians always have the right of way, regardless of whether or not they are in a marked or unmarked crosswalk.
