Authorities have disclosed the identity of a man who died last weekend after his vehicle crashed into a guard rail in San Jose, California. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office, on Tuesday, May 5, named the fatal victim as Mario Ramon Chavez Arredondo, 21, of San Jose, as confirmed in the accident reports.
The crash happened at about 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, near the Highway 87 connector ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol. Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle involved, a gray Chevrolet Impala, was northbound on the fast lane of Highway 87.
For reasons yet to be established, the car drifted to the right and exited the road before slamming into a guard rail. The Chevrolet suffered severe damages in the wreck, leaving its occupants trapped inside.
When patrol officers arrived at the scene, they rescued the driver and a male passenger from the wreck. Sadly, Arredondo was unresponsive, and medics confirmed him dead.
Meanwhile, paramedics transported the male passenger to a local hospital for treatment of major injuries suffered in the crash. Officers did not disclose the identity of the injured passenger in the accident reports.
No further information regarding the solo-vehicle wreck has been released. The CHP is still investigating the tragic accident to determine what caused Arredondo to leave the highway and crash his car.
Possible causes include distracted driving, intoxication, and speed, all of which would be considered by investigators.
