In the last week, the city of San Jose, California, has recorded four fatalities resulting from accidents. On Tuesday, March 10th, the San Jose Police Department released the name of the man who died in the most recent vehicle-versus-motorcycle crash.
Maurice Dillard, 23, was identified by the police as the man who died when a vehicle crashed into his motorcycle. According to Officer Gina Tepoorten, of the SDPD, the accident that claimed the young man’s life occurred at about 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3rd.
Dillard was traveling north in his 2006 Suzuki motorcycle when a 2015 Jeep turning onto Valleyhaven struck him. The impact of the crash left the motorcyclist with severe injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Jeep, a female, and her passenger, a minor, had non life-threatening wounds and were taken to the hospital for treatment. Tepoorten said drugs or alcohol did not contribute to the accident, and the investigation is still ongoing.
Dillard’s death is the ninth overall fatality San Jose has recorded in traffic accidents this year. Motorcycle fatality is not uncommon in California, with over 800 000 registered motorcycle riders.
Most motorcycle accidents involve a collision with a car, with the rider of the bike at risk of death or severe injuries more than the driver of a vehicle. The latter is caused by motorcyclists getting ejected from the bikes with little or no protective covering.
Motorcycle riders should always have a helmet properly fastened when riding and wear protective coverings to minimize the extent of injuries suffered in a crash.
