A skateboarder sustained severe injuries in an accident that happened at an intersection in Auburn, California, on Saturday, February 29th. The police identified the man who got hit as Erich Hostetter.

The accident occurred in the area of Highway 49 and Luther Road at about 7:30 a.m. According to the California Highway Patrol, Hostetter was riding his skateboard when a car that was making a left turn at the intersection knocked him down.

The skateboarder was rushed to the area hospital by the paramedics, and he is still alive at the time of this report. The driver of the vehicle got identified as Fedrick Weisgerber of Auburn, and he was unscathed from the accident.

The CHP does not believe that the driver was impaired in any way, and have ruled out alcohol or drugs as contributing factors. The investigation is still ongoing, and CHP will update the public once they have more information.

Accidents often leave people panicked, causing most drivers to flee from the scene. California traffic laws and authorities frown against the latter and have advised motorists on the best way to conduct themselves after an accident.

The first thing to do is not go into a panic but maintain a cool head. Find a safe place to park, considerably a short distance from the scene of the accident, where traffic won’t get impeded.

If there’s an injury, check to see the extent and call 911 and an ambulance. Record witness statements if possible before the police arrive, and stay at the scene until the police depart.
