Stacey Ellak Faces Charges of Financial Elder Abuse in Tuolumne County


A woman was arrested in Tuolumne County, California, on Wednesday, April 15, for allegedly claiming another’s identity and attempting to use a stolen check. In addition to acknowledging a fake identity, the suspect, Stacey Ellak, 43, of Jamestown was reportedly linked to previous burglaries, including forcefully or deceitfully collecting items of monetary value from an elderly citizen.

Authorities said several identification documents belonging to other people were found in Ellak’s possession at the time of her arrest.

At about 8:30 am on the said day, The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Price Co. Foods. reporting a woman trying to make payment using a stolen check.

Officers arrived at the scene shortly after and found the woman on her way out of a CVS pharmacy.

On sighting the sheriff deputies, the suspect allegedly took to her heels, with the police on her trail. After a brief pursuit on foot, officers apprehended her and took her into custody.

When officers searched the Jamestown woman, substances suspected to be methamphetamine were found in her possession.

In addition, burglary tools, other persons’ personal identification information, multiple stolen checks and debit cards were discovered on her.

Police said some of the items found with Ellak were earlier reported stolen in recent commercial burglaries.

The suspect has remained in police custody, on charges of identity theft, possession of stolen property under $950 unlawful possession of another’s access card, possession of burglary tools, possession of methamphetamine and resisting arrest.

She was also charged with financial elder abuse and is expected to appear in court, in accordance with the California Penal Code which makes provision for protecting elder citizens against potential threats.
