On Saturday afternoon, a freight truck struck four cars on Highway 12, killing one man. The truck accident took place between the cities of Stockton and Sacramento in California. The big-rig driver, Edwin Soper was heading westbound near Terminous when his truck struck four other cars that were stopped for a draw bridge. Soper, a freight truck driver did not slow down for the Delta, and the CHP is reporting that he was driving 55 mph at the time he noticed the stopped traffic and didn’t have time to react.
The CHP reports that all of the bridges traffic warning lights were working properly when the accident occurred. An Illinois man, who was driving a Chevrolet Avalanche was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident when Soper’s big rig slammed into his pickup and pushing him off the road.
Due to the freight trucks speed, after the initial impact, it continued forward slamming into three other cars and injuring six others. The truck driver suffered minor injuries. This tragic incident is the latest in a series of catastrophic crashes on Highway 12. Reports indicate that nine people were killed in the area in 2007.
