Teenage DUI Driver, Isaiah Lono, Arrested and Charged Following Gardena Accident that Killed One

The teenager involved in an accident with an alleged stolen vehicle while intoxicated would need a drunk driving attorney’s service. 19-year-old Isaiah Lono of Hawthorne caused the crash that killed a female motorist in California’s Gardena area on Saturday morning, August 29th.

According to Lt. Christopher Cuff of the Gardena Police Department, the accident happened around 11:50 a.m. at the intersection of Redondo Beach Boulevard and Vermont Avenue. Officers discovered the collision involved a stolen Dodge pickup operated by Lono and a Nissan Sentra.

Cuff said that the suspect fled the crash site after the collision, but officers later located him. Medics took the Sentra’s severely injured driver to Harbor UCLA Medical Center, where she died while undergoing treatment. The police are yet to release the victim’s name and age.

The lieutenant said they arrested Lono on suspicion of homicide, vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run, and driving under the influence. There is no additional information at this time.

The Center for Disease Control states that motor vehicle accidents are more common among male teens than female teenagers. One of the common causes of crashes involving teenagers is intoxicated driving. Under California law, a teenager is supposed to drive with less than .01% blood alcohol concentration.

Anything from that number and above is illegal, and offenders will answer to a DUI charge. Common punishments for this offense are jail time, payment of a fine, driver’s license suspension, and alcohol reeducation program.
