Martin Polk Cited for Warren County Solo Crash that Killed Cleaster Maye

Lasean Jackson

The Illinois State Police said that one person died and four others suffered injuries in a solo vehicle crash on Saturday evening, August 29th, in Warren County, Illinois. They identified the victim as 67-year-old Cleaster Maye, and the suspect as Martin Polk, 52.

The two are from Macomb, and the suspect would need a top accident lawyer’s expertise. In the accident report, the ISP said that the crash happened on the westbound lane of 40th Avenue near 40th Street at approximately 6:16 p.m.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Martin’s 2007 Honda Odyssey was westbound on 40th Avenue when he lost control and went off the road on the south side. The impact overturned the minivan and it rested in a cornfield.

The crash left Maye with fatal injuries, while the suspect suffered wounds and received treatment in an area hospital. Three other passengers, 41-year-old Michael Clark, from Nashville, Tennessee, 49-year-old Patricia Polk, and 54-year-old Angela Alcantara, suffered unspecified injuries and received treatment. The women are residents of Macomb.

The ISP issued Martin citations for aggravated DUI, driving under the influence, improper lane usage, and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash. He is also facing charges of aggravated reckless driving and driving while license revoked. There is no additional information.

Under Illinois law, the above are severe offenses, and prosecutors try them either as a misdemeanor or felony. A conviction means possible imprisonment for the offender, payment of a fine, and revocation of driving privileges.
